2009 November 3, American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX:

No doubt the hero of the day was the big German Dirk Nowitzki as he sets a Maverick record for the most points scored in a quarter. Dirk had 40 points, with 29 of them coming in the 4th quarter, to lift the Mavs well over the Jazz who at one time were leading by 16! Nowitzki also blocked 5 shots so his defense also played a big role in the outcome of this game.

Usually Dirk pulls on his shirt, sticks his tongue out or something to celebrate when he lights up a team. However he was relatively calm most of the night but I did manage to catch this moment as he and Kidd jump up to celebrate. Not the best angle but I got something.4

Below Andrei Kirilenko ‘aka’ AK-47 was relaxing on the bench and I manage to catch a shot of him looking directly into my lens.

I’ve been working on this shot since the very first preseason game but haven’t been able to catch it just how I wanted to. I made some exposure changes and was able to capture 2 shots that I particularly liked so I posted both of them. I like the reflection of the video board on the glass of the back board.15

Hero of the Day

Dirk receives a standing ovation from the crowd and high fives from his teammates as he walks off the court near the end of the game. It was extremely loud and crazy as Dirk received a hero’s welcome for his record setting performance.

Utah coach Jerry Sloan is usually yelling and frowning but I got lucky and caught this cool portrait shot of him.
